STRENGTHENING ANTI-CORRUPTION ADVOCACY IN THE HEALTH SECTOR-
The enormous increase of funding in the health sector has brought both benefits and new challenges. It has created multiple opportunities for corruption, especially in HIV/AIDS funding. Examples for corruption within the health sector are for instance the unclear procurement procedures, misappropriation of funds earmarked for health, and informal payments demanded for medication that is supposed to be delivered for free and selling of drugs in the parallel market. To ensure that the funding is used effectively and efficiently, TI-Z focused on devising anti-corruption initiatives so that all Zimbabweans can benefit from the provision of health services and medication.
PROMOTING TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY IN HUMANITARIAN FOOD AID DISTRIBUTION
TI-Z believes that the first step in the fight against corruption is equitable distribution of basic resources to all levels of society. However, the advent of hunger in Zimbabwe has seen government authorities, political leaders diverting humanitarian food aid for political and personal use. This is the worst abuse of authority since it deprives the most vulnerable poor, constituting millions of the Zimbabwean society. TI-Z was involved in putting up structures that will see fair distribution of humanitarian food aid.
TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY IN THE EDUCATION SECTOR-
The national education system has been affected by corruption especially at school administration level. TI-Z’s Advocacy and Legal Advice Centre (ALAC) had received complaints concerning the mismanagement of the Basic Education Assistance Module (BEAM) and the mismanagement of school funds which includes incentives paid to teachers. To that respect, TI-Z was working with relevant stakeholder to ensure transparency and accountability in the education sector.
